Coming out of an economic downturn, the beauty and personal care industry is showing signs of recovery and growth, leading to fierce competition among brands for consumer loyalty and conversion. It has become increasingly important for beauty and personal care products to stand out from the clutter, not only in beauty catalogs, but also on store shelves.

In addition to product loyalty, packaging and labeling innovations are at the forefront of grabbing consumer attention and converting them to final sales. As a brand owner, whether you’re introducing a new product or revamping an existing one, your labeling choice is a significant factor that can determine how well your product will perform in the market.

The See-Through, No-Label Effect
Converters and end users looking to achieve a unique, no-label look on their beauty and personal care products adopt clear-on-clear prime film labels. Designed to fit any beauty packaging substrate, including rigid, semi-squeezable and squeezable containers, clear-on-clear prime film labels offer converters and brand owners a variety of design options and enhanced graphic quality.

Without printing directly on the packaging, end users can easily enhance the aesthetics of their packaging and display the content of their products to consumers who often have only a few minutes to make a purchase decision. These labels blend in with the packaging, giving it an appearance that it was printed directly on it. And because these films offer versatility for all types of product labeling, end users have a wide variety to choose from to fit their needs.

Beauty and Personal Care Label Trends
In recent years, label manufacturers have witnessed an increase in demand for prime film labels for beauty and personal care applications. Converters and end users are finding more value with prime film labels, especially squeezable labels, because they are tear resistant, conformable to the products and are non-whitening, which is important for applications such as soft soap bottles. There are also cost savings to using film labels because converters can run the films at a higher speed, which means they can throughput more labels at a time—a benefit that’s often passed on to end users.

Designed for health and beauty applications such as lotions and shampoos, squeezable films are also used for other non-beauty applications such as household cleaning products, and food and beverage labeling.

These films are coated with a strong, non-water whitening adhesive that doesn’t flag, offers optimal clarity and excellent wet-out and is durable and can be applied at varying temperatures. Prime label films also feature great open time and repositionability, which is an important attribute especially in bottle applications where users might want to pull back and straighten the label.

Film labels with polyester (PET) liners are also now in demand in the industry because converters and end users find that they perform better on the press and during label dispensing—they have more durability and won’t break easily. Besides the strength of PET liners, converters also find that these films are cleaner to work with, leaving behind no debris or dust as is often common with paper.

Another trend in the beauty labeling industry is the demand for metallized film labels. End users are finding that the shimmery look that metallized labels offer make their products more prominent and attractive to consumers.

In the beauty industry where product upgrades are the norm, end users can find a lot of value in using film labels because rather than replace the packaging in its entirety, the labels can easily be replaced, resulting in manufacturing savings.

Labels that perform optimally and help a product stand out can seal the deal for converters and end users. In this constantly evolving industry, the use of prime film labels is a trend that will not go away anytime soon.
